Colour and pattern

Two of my greatest passions as a designer are for colour and pattern, preferably a visually pleasing combination of the two. I’m going to look at pattern design over the next few weeks and discover a bit more about its rich history and learn how to create tessellating, repeating designs.
Orla Kiely, William Morris and Amy Butler are three of my all-time favourite pattern designers. I wanted to avoid mentioning her name but Cath Kidston kicks ass with her delicate spots, stripes and florals.
Here’s my first attempt at modern geometric pattern. I’d love to get to the point of being able to make my own wrapping papers! Love a challenge! WWx

One Response to Colour and pattern

  1. Hi Wendy –

I just came across your site from your comment on a Design Sponge post and love it! I’m fairly new to the blogging world and was wondering if you could give me some illustration pointers. I’m by no means an illustrator or very familiar with any software, but I’m a fast learner. I’m preparing to work on a new logo and features for my site, could you pass along any direction for someone wanting to learn how to make such beautiful images like your wallpaper and Saturday doodle?

    Thanks!
    Kim
